This is a tracking category for [[Help:Citation Style 1|CS1 citations]] that use {{para|language}} where the assigned value is not recognized by [[:Help:MediaWiki|MediaWiki]]. MediaWiki recognizes all of the [[w:List of ISO 639-1 codes|ISO 639-1]] two-character codes and some of the [[w:List of ISO 639-2 codes|ISO 639-2]] three-character codes, along with the full official names of the languages corresponding to those codes. See the [[w:Template:Citation Style documentation/language/doc|list of supported codes / names]].<br />
MediaWiki is particular about language name spelling. For example, [[w:Northern Sámi|Northern Sámi]] should be spelled Northern Sami. MediaWiki does not recognize three-character codes when there is an equivalent two-character code: for Northern Sami, use code <code>se</code> instead of code <code>sme</code>. For recognized ISO 639-2 languages with multiple official names, MediaWiki recognizes only one. For example, code <code>crh</code> can refer to [[w:Crimean Tatar language|Crimean Tatar]] or Crimean Turkish; MediaWiki recognizes the latter.<br />
MediaWiki does not recognize dialects and character sets (e.g. [[w:Simplified Chinese]] (a character set), [[British English]] (a dialect)).<br />
Text that is not a recognized language code or name (e.g., the 'and' in {{para|language|German and French}}) will add the article to this category because the citation module is looking for a single language name or code, or a comma-separated list of language names and/or codes; {{para|language|German and French}} should be changed to {{para|language|German, French}}, or to {{para|language|de, fr}}.<br />
Pages in this category should only be added by [[Module:Citation/CS1]].<br />
