William Ross entered a grant for 400 acres on the east side of Broad River on June 6, 1767. At the time, this area was part of [[Mecklenburg County, North Carolina]]. His grant was issued on October 26, 1767. In 1769, this area became part of [[Tryon County, North Carolina|Tryon County]], which is now extinct. At this time of this grant, in this area of the county, there was also First Broad River, Little First Broad River, and Second Broad River. The grant states specifically "on a branch of Turkey Creek", but a Turkey Creek intersecting with any of these Broad Rivers is not found on a modern map.<br />
