“Francis Ross (b.1665) was born in Ross-shire, Scotland and was banned from Scotland for the part he played in the Catholic insurrection of 1689. He emigrated to Ireland where he married and had at least four children. One of his children, James Ross (b.1698) immigrated to America in 1724 and settled in South Carolina where he married Catherine McCullough. They were the parents of seven children. One of their grandchildren was George Ross (1760-1846) was born to John McCullough Ross and Barbara Hogue. He served in the American Revolution and married Elizabeth Walker. They were the parents of six children. He moved with other members of his family to Tennessee where they settled in Hardin County. Descendants live in Tennessee, Texas and other parts of the United States.”
