Y-DNA results from Hugh Ross, son of the late David Ross, most recent chief of Clan Ross and direct descendant of Fearchar, Earl of Ross, are not a match to R Haplogroup - Family 01, the 'Rose of Kilravock' group. Hugh's results are a match, instead, to R Haplogroup - Family 02. The earls descend from major haplogroup branch R1a and Rose of Kilravock descends from major haplogroup branch R1b. This means that these two families do not share a patrilineal ancestor within the last 25,000 years.[1]
