This template is used to help follow established category hierarchies. Other websites have already determined optimal category hierarchies based on the type of information they are organizing. Wikipedia is a good example for categorizing articles. The FamilySearch catalog is a good example for categorizing types of genealogical sources. There has been an attempt, then, to mimic these hierarchies and then adapt them where appropriate.
This template is used simply to provide a reference to the model being used for a particular category.
Usage
Include at the bottom of a Category page.
If the category name on this website is not identical to the category name at the original website, include the original name in the 2nd parameter.
For example:
{{Category model|FamilySearch wiki|Category:Coats of Arms}}
'GCS' refers to the Genealogy Classification System which is used for Books. Books on this website are categorized according to FamilySearch's catalog, but where their categories are not specific enough, this system has been adapted.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Site name | 1 | Name of website that template was copied from.
| String | required |
| Category name | 2 | Only required if the page name of the category is different on this site than on the site it was copied from. Enter name as it is on original site, including namespace. There are two options for FamilySearch. 'FamilySearch wiki' links to the FamilySearch wiki, in which case, follow instructions above. 'FamilySearch' links to the FamilySearch catalog page, which is not a wiki. Therefore, either enter the 'searchId' found in the URL of the category's search results page or leave this parameter blank. | String | optional |
