Discussion

This book contains a chapter by Alexander Grant called 'The Province of Ross and the Kingdom of Alba' in which he states that the speculation connecting Fearchar Mac an t-Sagairt Earl of Ross to Applecross is 'distinctly unsound'. He also goes into the genealogy covered in the 1467 manuscript. This includes an interesting discussion of the connection between Fearchar, Paul Mactire and Gilleoin of the Aird indicating that it was Paul who was descended from the Gilleoin and not Fearchar. He also discusses the connection in the manuscript between Gilleoin, the Mackenzies and the Mathesons. This may be of importance considering that fact that participants in Y-DNA R Haplogroup - Family 02 include both Rosses and descendants of these Mathesons of Lochalsh.
