| Description | Charter by Elizabeth Byseth, relict of Sir Andrew de Bosco, in her lawful widowhood and with full power, giving, granting and confirming forever to William, Earl of Ross, and his heirs, the whole barony of Edidouer, namely the castle with the davach called Glastulauch, another davach called Davauchnakaryn, a third davach called Culyncurch, a fourth davach called Cuulcolli [Kilcoy], the half davach called Lechdavauchfur, and three-fourths of a davach called Gargyhishille, in wood and plain, meadows and grazings, etc, malt-kilns, etc, mountains, hills, valleys, and birds' nests, and also with the patronage of the hospital-house of Edirdouer, and the rents pertaining to said house, and all and sundry other just pertinents, etc, belonging to said barony, in excambion for 3 davachs of land in Roger, namely, the davach called Ardtarbard, another davach called Tarbard, and the half-davach called Byndal in said tenement of Tarbard, and the half-davach called Estirmuirachy, which 3 davachs said Earl William gave, granted, and confirmed to her in his charter; said barony of Edirdouer to be held by said Earl, and his heirs, with pertinents as aforesaid, in chief, fee and heritage, of the King of Scots and his heirs, as freely, quietly, wholly and honourably, as any barony held or possessed in the Kingdom of Scotland in the northerly part of the mountains. As her seal was not well known, the seals of Sir William de Fentona, Sir William de Haya and the prior of Beauly ('de Bello loco'), together with her seal, were appended. | Description | Elizabeth Bisset, widow of the late Lord Andrew del Bois, in her full authority and lawful widowhood, has given, granted and by this her present charter established to Lord William, earl of Ross, all the barony of Edirdouer (Redcastle, ROS), namely, the castle with the davoch called ‘Glastulach’, another davoch called ‘Davachnakaryn’, a third davoch called ‘Cultynturch’, a fourth davoch called ‘Cuulcolli’ (now Kilcoy, Killearnan parish, ROS), a half davoch called ‘Lethdavachfur’, and three quarters of a davoch called ‘Gargyishille’, in woods, etc., including birds’ nests, and also with the patronage of the house of the hospital of ‘Edirdouer’, and the renders belonging to that house, in exchange for three davochs of land in Ross, namely, the davoch called ‘Ardtarbard’, another davoch called Tarbat (ROS), and a half davoch called Bindal (ROS) in the same holding of Tarbat, and a half davoch called ‘Estirmuirathy’, which three davochs Lord William the earl gave, granted and established by his charter to her, as attested in her charter. Having and holding the aforesaid barony of ‘Edirdouer’ in chief feu and heritage of the lord king of Scotland, as freely as any baron in the kingdom of Scotland north of the Mounth. The seals of Lords William of Fenton, William de la Haye and the prior of Beauly as well as Elizabeth’s own seal, are attached. |
