David Dei gracia rex Scottorum omnibus , etc. Sciatis nos dedisse concessisse et hac presenti carta nostra confirmasse confirmasse , dilecto et fideli nostro Waltero de Lessely militi , et Eufamie de Rosse sponse [sue]¹ consanguinee nostre, pro homagio et servicio suo , totam Novam forestam cum pertinenciis, infra vicecomitatum de Drumffres · Tenendam et habendam eidem Valtero et Eufamie sponse sue et heredibus suis masculis inter ipsos legitime procreandis de nobis et heredibus nostris in unam integram et liberam baroniam in feodo et hereditate, per omnes rectas metas suas et divisas, in boscis et planis pratis et pascuis moris et marresiis viis et semitis aquis stagnis et molendinis multuris, fabrilibus et bracinis , aucupacionibus venacionibus venacionibus piscariis, cum bondis bondagiis nativis et eorum sequelis, cum furca et fossa sacco et socca tholle et theme et infangandthef, et cum omnibus aliis et singulis libertatibus commoditatibus aysiamentis et justis pertinenciis suis quibuscunque ad dictam forestam spectantibus seu quoquomodo juste spectare valentibus infuturum , adeo libere quiete plene integre et honorifice sicut aliqua terra alicui baroni in liberam baroniam liberius, etc., dari poterit seu concedi · Faciendo inde nobis et heredibus nostris predicti Walterus et Eufamia sponsa sua et heredes sui supra dicti homagium et servicium forinsecum quantum ad tantam terram debeat pertinere. Translation

David, by the grace of God, king of all the Scots, etc. Know that we have granted and confirmed by this present charter, to our beloved and faithful soldier Walter de Lessely, and to Eufamia de Rosse our kinswoman, for his homage and service, the whole of the New Forest with its appurtenances, below the viscounty of Drumfres. To be held and held by the same Walter and Eufamia his spouse and their heirs male among themselves lawfully procreating from us and our heirs in one whole and free barony in fee and inheritance, by all their right lands and divisions, in the woods and plains of the meadows and pastures of the moor and with marshes, roads and paths with water ponds and mills, mills, carpenters and brewers, hunting and fishing, with bonds and bondage of the natives and their sequels, with fork and trench bag and sock and bag and theme and infangandthef, and with all other and individual liberties, conveniences, aysias and by their rightful appurtenances to any who look upon the said forest, or who are in any way able to look after it justly, so freely, quietly, fully, fully, and honorably, as any land may be freely given or granted to any baron in a free barony, etc. his bride and his heirs the aforesaid homage and legal service in so far as it should pertain to so much land.
