Robert II. granted a charter ratifying a grant made by the late William, Earl of Ross, “our brother,” to the late Hugh de Ross, his brother, of the lands of Balnagoune, Achanyll, and Corty, and an annual rent of four pounds from Tarbard in the earldom of Ross, to be held by William de Ross, son and heir of the said late Hugh, and his heirs.

Robertus, etc., omnibus , etc. approbasse, etc., donacionem illam et concessionem quas quondam Willelmus[1] comes de Rosse frater noster fecit et concessit quondam Hugoni de Rosse fratri suo , de terris de Balnegoune, Achauylle et Corty , nec[non]1 de annuo redditu quatuor librarum de Tarbarde cum pertinenciis, in comitatu de Rosse infra vicecomitatum de Invernys . Tenendis et habendis Willelmo de Rosse filio et heredi dicti quondam Hugonis et heredibus suis in feodo et hereditate , per omnes rectas metas et divisas suas, adeo libere et quiete in omnibus et per omnia sicut carta dicti quondam comitis dicto quondam Hugoni exinde confecta in se juste continet et proportat· Salvis nobis warda et relevio dictarum terrarum et redditus quociens nobis debebitur warda sive relevium de comitatu predicto necnon salvis nobis aliis serviciis nostris . In cujus rei , etc. Testibus , etc. Apud Nude in Badenache, decimo die Augusti anno regni nostri quarto.

Translation

Confirmation of William de Rosse. Robert, etc., to all, etc. approved, etc., that donation and concession which William, Count of Rosse, our brother once made and granted to Hugh de Rosse his brother, of the lands of Balnegoune, Achauylle, and Corty, as well as of the annual rent of four pounds of Tarbarde with appurtenances, in the county of Rosse under the sheriff of Inverness. To hold and hold to William de Rosse, son and heir of the said former Hugh and his heirs in fee and inheritance, by all their rightful lands and divisions, as freely and quietly in all and by all as the charter of the said former earl to the said former Hugh then executed in himself justly contains and proportion · Save to us the ward and relief of the said lands and the rent whenever the ward or relief of the aforesaid county will be due to us as well as save to us our other services. In whose case, etc. Witnesses, etc. At Nude in Badenache, on the tenth day of August in the fourth year of our reign.
