| Description | Charter by Walter de Lesly, knight, Lord of Ross, and Eufame, his spouse, eldest daughter of William late Earl of Ross, granting and confirming, for the salvation of their souls and those of all their ancestors, the Earls of Ross their heirs and successors as also their other parents and successors, to the blessed virgin Mary and Saint Boneface, patron of the church of Ross, the whole town of Drwme, with common pasture within the park ('parcham'), for ever for the sustenance of one chaplain doing divine worship in the chapel of St Boneface adjacent to the town of Rosmarkie, which is called Cuthyl Curitin [?] according to the ordination of Alexander de Kylquos, then Bishop of Ross: to be held forever in pure and free alms, without any secular service, custom, contribution or demand, so that the granters, their heirs and successors, will do and be answerable for forensic service and aid to the King for said town of Drwme; with clause of warrandice to the effect that if they infringe the grant in anywise they shall be bound to pay to said chapel 100 merks and to submit to ecclesiastical censure by the Bishop of Ross for the time being; and reserving the presentation and appointment of said chaplain to the dean and chapter of the cathedral church of Ross. Witnesses, Mr William de Dyngwale, dean of Ross, John de Lyndesay, Adam de Wrchard, William Bedow, David de Dunhowyn, Hugh de Munroo. Dated at the granters' castle of Dyngwale. |
