| Description | Charter by Euffame, Countess of Ross, daughter and heir of William, late Earl of Ross, with consent of her dearest son and heir Alexander de Lessly and in his presence, giving, granting, and confirming, to her dearest and faithful cousin Hugh de Monro, laird ('domino') of Fowlys, for his homage and service, and for laudable good deeds oft-times rendered and to be rendered to her, the whole davach of land of Wesstir Fowlys with 'le Fortyr' of Strathschech pertaining thereto, with all their just pertinents; to be held by said Hugh and the heirs of his body lawfully procreated or to be procreated in fee and heritage, of her and her heirs, by all their right boundaries and marches, in woods, plains, etc, hunting and hawking, meadows, pastures, malt-kilns, smithies, mills and multures, and with liege-men and neyfs, as freely as any other land within the Kingdom of Scotland granted by any earl or baron for good deeds; said Hugh and his heirs as aforesaid rendering therefor to her and her heirs yearly a pair of white gloves or 2 pennies at Whitsunday, if asked, at her castle of Dyngwale, and 3 suits at her 3 head courts yearly at Kinardy, as also doing forensic service to the King relative to said lands; with clause of warrandice. Her seal was appended at Dyngwale. Witnesses, her dearest son and heir Alexander de Lessly, Sir John de Spens, vicar of Kyltyarne, Mark de Rate, Thomas de Munro, John de Munro and John de Tarrell. |
