Reeves's theory that the [[Mac an t-Sagairt Earls of Ross|Earls of Ross]] were descended from the lay-abbots of Maelrubha's monastery of [[St. Maelrubha's monastery at Aporcrosan|Applecross]] was dependent this assumption.
