Thenceforth, David and his heirs or assignees are to render during the first four years [of the agreement] two pennies of sterling per year to Hugh of Rose and his heirs or assignees, viz.: one penny is to be rendered after the feast of Pentecost, and one penny after the feast of St Martin in winter, and they are to render during the final four years, eight marks of sterling at two times of the year (i.e. Pentecost and St Martin), for all service, custom, or secular demand. Hugh and Mary reserve their wood of Kilcoy, along with one acre of land which John called Dalt formerly held; so that Sir David and his heirs or his assignees and his men may have and take from the wood to burn and to build according to their will in the land of Kilcoy. Conditions and penalties are stipulated in case of war or failure in the terms of any of the aforesaid.
