Robertus Dei gracia rex Scottorum, etc. Sciatis nos dedisse concessisse et hac presenti carta nostra confirmasse dilecto filio nostro Johanni Lyouna militi, illum annuum redditum quatuor celdrarum frumenti et decem librarum sterlingorum exeuntem de terris de Doune cum pertinenciis, infra vicecomitatum de Banffe · quiquidem annuus redditus nos contingit racione escaete pro eo quod Hugo de Rosse ipsum annuum redditum alienavit Andree de Berclay nostra licencia ad hoc non optenta · Tenendum et habendum dicto Johanni heredibus suis et suis assignatis de nobis et heredibus nostris in feodo et hereditate, libere et quiete· Faciendo inde nobis servicia debita et consueta. Translation
Robert, by the grace of God, king of the Scots, etc. Be it known that we have granted and confirmed by this present charter to our beloved son John Lyon, the soldier, that annual rent of four bushels of corn and ten pounds sterling coming out of the lands of Doune with its appurtenances, below the viscounty of Banff; Hugh de Rosse alienated the same annual rent to Andrew de Berclay without our license to this effect · To be held and held by the said John to his heirs and assigns of us and our heirs in fee and inheritance, free and quiet · Doing thence due and customary services to us. In whose case, etc. Witnesses as above. At Kyndrocht, on the penultimate day of August in the twelfth year of our reign.
