Title	Draft/copy correspondence from the Earl of Home concerning the defence of Scotland against the Jacobite 'rebels'. (30 items). Includes:- (9) 1745 November 25 To the Lord Justice Clerk: 'I was informed this morning [tha]t a party of the Rebels were... to pass at Calder Bridge... I immediately order'd to beat to Arms & apply'd to the Provost for horses to mount fifty Dragoons, but it was near two o'Clock before I cou'd have them, I sett out at that time... but was not able to come up with them, I pursued them to a place called Fintry....' (10) 1745 November 25 To the Lord Justice Clerk: 'I cant say I have found the magistrates so ready or willing to arm as I expected which is not owing to their want of Zeal but to fearfulness, they are told of Great Numbers of Highlanders being to come from the North this way nor can I persuade them of the Smalness of that danger...' (18) 1745 December 7 To the Earl of Ross, Glasgow: 'the Arms are here [Glasgow] & if two hundred men will come here they shall have Arms compleat with ammunition deliverd to them. As to the necisarys I dont see anything wanting but a good pair of shoes.' (27) 1745 December 13 To the Lord Justice Clerk: 'I have a very troublesome command as the volonteer officers dont much care to do anything but what is agreeable to them, they are vastly affronted upon account of their being quarter'd out of town....'
