Let it be known that we have the coming of Lord Robert of Bruse towards the parties of Rosse or great poer because we have not met him but we do not dare to do so? to see our people, and we have spent a fortnight or three thousand people on our coasts in the borders of our county and in two other counties, namely the counties of Southland and Cathenesse and will destroy them beyond measure if we have not taken three from him and prayed for good people and religion as from other jesus at the approaching Pentecost, so that we may be comforted by you our Lord if it pleases you, because all our hope and all our fear is in you, Lord. And know dear Lord that in no way have we taken any advantage of him but for that the Guard of Moref was not far from the country that the people of his guard would not come to us without his command to destroy our enemies as well as that no help even from our leading people would be given. Therefore dear Lord, if you would please remember us and inform us of your will of the things that we have heard. This request cannot be answered without the King.
A feast to know that William formerly Count of Southland made to the fair our Lord your father. And when he died, Sir Aymer de Valaunce guarded Scots to this binder who gave the custody of the same countee to Johan our fiz then took pure responsibility for the issues even this countee saved his expenses. And because the son of this county is not sufficient to govern this county, dear Lord, command us by your letter that we allow the title of the aforementioned Count, and that we are to take over the succession of this county and that we can have it if you please, for our graciousness of the expenses that we have incurred in defense against your enemies, and that the aforementioned county be granted by us at your will and at your grace since the son of this county is not sufficient.
