Timeline
Below is a list of events that are evidenced by this source. They should appear in the 'Timeline' section of articles about people and places involved in the events.
- 29 May 1235 - Pope Gregory IX, to the Bishop of Ross. The bishop has petitioned that the prebends in the church of Ross are so slender that the four canons who hold them cannot reside there, to the detriment of divine service, while the church's resources have so increased that the number of canons and the assessment of the prebends can and ought to be augmented. The pope grants the bishop licence to augment the slender prebends and to ordain new ones there as he sees fit, notwithstanding any contrary ordinance, even one confirmed by the apostolic see. Given at Perugia.[1]

Discussion
The bishop is not named; the register copy leaves his name blank. A letter of Alexander IV of 9 February 1256 (Theiner, no. 182) states that this licence was granted to Robert, Bishop of Ross, and repeats its wording almost word for word. That letter also places the church concerned at Rosemarkie, which is not named here.
The date IIII Kal. Iun., 9th year of Gregory IX, is 29 May 1235.
